School Programs
Environmentally we currently enjoy a rich, wilderness heritage in Canada which is rapidly being eroded by mismanagement and publich apathy. If we want a quality environment in the future we must address the overall issue of natural predators. If we can maintain the wolf in its natural environment, then we have proven that we can solve the larger problem of preserving some of the wilderness that is Canadian legacy.
Hank Halliday, the inspiring leader who founded Wolf Awareness also developed an award-winning integrated studies program that focuses on important environmental and ecological issues. Hank had 30+ years of teaching experience prior to developing the integrated studies program, and desribes it in the following way:

Presentations will reinforce that people are part of ecosystems; posing problems & solutions. The goal is to foster an appreciation for and understanding of the uniqueness, resilience and delicacy of naturally functioning ecosystems. Participants gain a sense of stewardship. Programs are designed to offer a unique glimpse at how large carnivores can affect the health of entire eco-systems.
We can choose to protect this “ark for wildlife”. YOU can help to ensure that we do.
Help us SPREAD WOLF AWARENESS by inviting us to present school programs or host a presentation, film screening, discussion night, or educational workshop in your area.

Using the wolf as a barometer of our planet's environmental status, this curriculum has heightened the awareness and enriched the learning of youngsters.... Using primary sources and field data as a basis for true-to-life problem situations, students increasingly become self-motivated, self-directed problem-solvers

Will we be one of the first provinces or even countries to deliberately save fundamental pieces of our natural fabric?
For wolves, whose territory requirements can be up to 3,000 square kilometers for a single pack in the Central Rocky mountains, vast wilderness areas need protecting. By preserving the habitat requirements of wide-ranging species such as wolves, ecological integrity can be maintained throughout the functioning ecosystem.
HOW YOU CAN HELP SPREAD WOLF AWARENESS:
Aside from school programs, WAI would love to visit your community to deliver a presentation tailored to your specific group or learning interest.
We also love being invited to set-up informative booths at special events. Please let us know if you have an event you would like to see us at!
Here are some images of highlights from Wolf Awareness school programs. The photos below are of grades 5, 6 and 7 learning about wolves! See them re-creating the story of what happened in Yellowstone when wolves were removed...and then returned, as well as the scene the classes helped to create of old-growth forest habitat for mountain caribou that has clear cuts and snowmobile trails!

Wolf Awareness is also proud to offer school programs about endangered species, biodiversity, and bears too!
WAI offers curriculum-based education programs for schools in various formats. WAI will:
deliver one or a series of presentations to individual classes or groups
provide teachers with a manual for a "tried and true" integrated studies program
